Sustainable Energy Systems Technician (Level 5)

Sustainable Energy Systems Technicians are responsible for the planning, installation and commissioning of renewable energy systems (PV and wind) and energy storage systems, as well as system testing and maintenance, including the repair of defective components. As supervisors, they oversee and are responsible for the work of smaller teams, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budgets in medium-sized projects.

They also install electrical systems, and control devices in power plants, substations and large industrial facilities. Using circuit diagrams, they lay power lines and assemble and install electrical systems, including associated distribution, switching and control equipment.

The term switching and control devices” is more accurate and comprehensive than simply “switches”, as it includes circuit breakers, contactors, relays, and other control components, not just manual switches.

 

In addition to the tasks of a Building Electrician:

  • Plan, assemble, extend, modify, commission, test, maintain and repair renewable energy systems (PV, wind) and energy storage systems.
  • Program, configure and test software for control and monitoring, including IoT features.
  • Dimension, install, commission and maintain electrical power distribution systems.
  • Identify and rectify faults in electrical power distribution systems.
  • Check overall system functionality and ensure safety and protective devices are operational.
  • Process and monitor job orders efficiently and in accordance with established standards.
  • Hand over and document projects.
